Grand Knights Message    August 2022

My Brothers,

August proved to be a summer slow-down month. While our month was less stressful, it was nonetheless a busy month for the Council.

The month started with the continuation of our Council’s relocation from Central Avenue to our new digs in classroom #6 at the Sts. Peter & Paul building at Holy Spirit parish. It took two weekends to completely vacate the new convent building. Many, many brothers lent a hand with this move. I must single out two brothers for there significant contributions. First, Br. Randy Gaa who provided a trailer which proved invaluable to the move and also Br. Dean Erickson who so generously provided us with a storage unit to hold our overflow possessions.  We need to create a committee to put our new location into proper order. More will follow on this matter shortly.

The feast day of our founder, Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney, occurred on the 13th of this month. To celebrate this feast day, Br. Randy Gaa set up and streamed a movie of the life and accomplishments of Fr. McGivney. While the audience was sadly smaller than we had hoped for, the movie was most enjoyable and educational. Insights into Fr. McGivney’s life and times made me prouder to be a member of the Order which he established. We may show this movie again later this year to hopefully a larger audience.

Our new format for our Officers/Chairmen meeting separated from our regular business meeting was initiated. While this format may take some adjusting to, it does allow for longer and hopefully more productive meetings in both cases. Please plan on attending our Officers/Chairmen’s meeting on 09/08/2022 and our regular business meeting on 09/14/22. Both meetings will be held at Holy Spirit parish hall at 6:30 PM. We will shift our meeting to our new digs when the Council space has been organized and the weather is much cooler.

Father Krings graciously allowed me to make a recruitment talk after the masses on the 27th and 28th. The talk was limited to three minutes; however, I believed my message was well received by our church community. We did pick up several prospects which we are following up on. A report will be made at our 09/08/22 meeting. I hope to be allowed to make a similar presentation at other church communities in the next few months.  Keep my efforts in your prayers so that the Lord may bless our work in this area.

Finally, our Retention Committee met and we continued in our process to bring our membership records to currency. May the Lord’s peace be with you always.

Br. Tom Grau, Grand Knight
